Hanoi – Sept 11, 2019 - Green Generation in partnership with Co2balance UK Ltd., organized Local Stakeholder Consultation (LSC) in Hanoi to finalize the design of their upcoming project on improved cook stove (ICS) carbon offsetting project in the northern mountainous and midland areas of Vietnam.

In rural areas of Vietnam, many households cook on traditional iron-bar fires. These fires have poor thermal efficiency and use a lot of firewood. This results in high CO2 emissions, indoor air pollution and high demand for firewood which drives deforestation.

The project will cover the following provinces: Hoa Binh, Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Bac Giang. Other provinces to benefit from the project include Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Bac Ninh and Vinh Phuc.

The GreenGen improved stoves will be sold at markets across the provinces. GreenGen stoves have been tested to meet international standards and are much more efficient than the traditional iron-bar fire and significantly reduce firewood consumption. This reduces CO2 emissions, improves the respiratory health of those in the kitchen due to less smoke and reduces the time and money spent on collecting or buying firewood.

CO2balance is a UK-based carbon offsetting project developer. Over the last decade, CO2balance has developed more than 125 carbon offset projects globally in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy and safe water supply across over 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
